But what makes the Ghost Bird Ball so special?
A few words about the show
Replacing the famous falconry show, the Bal des Oiseaux fantômes is an extraordinary show featuring the participation of numerous tame birds. Held on the ruins of the original Puy du Fou, this 30-minute show is scheduled 2 to 4 times daily.
Le Bal des Oiseaux tells the story of Eleanor, who wakes up in a ruined castle after being cursed. A masterful aerial ballet performed by different species of birds recounts the daydreams and memories of this bewitched young princess.
An aerial show
In keeping with the spirit of the park, the Bal des Oiseaux fantômes is a blend of history, legends and fun that is sure to please all visitors to the Vendée. Suitable for all ages, this artistic performance also highlights the importance of falconry during the Middle Ages.
The memories of returning birds are recounted in an aerial show that will not leave the audience indifferent. Birds of prey, hawks, eagles and owls perform choreographed feats right above the audience’s heads. Expect an unforgettable experience! You’ll also be captivated by the skill of the master falconers who direct the movements and gestures of these exceptional birds.
The Puy du Fou Phantom Birds Ball has been attracting thousands of visitors to every show since its creation in 2003.
An extraordinary performance
During the show, over 310 birds of some 50 different species take part in the Ghost Ball. The exciting story comes to a climactic close with the simultaneous flight of 150 birds.
In addition to the artistic aspect, the show is distinguished by the coordination of the birds’ movements under the watchful, professional eye of the Puy du Fou falconers. Dressed in period costumes, they coordinate the ballet like true maestros, allowing the audience to observe and admire all the participating birds in flight and at rest. All to the rhythm of grandiose musical compositions, including those by Thomas J Bergersen.
Le Puy du Fou, a major raptor center
The reputation of the Oiseaux fantômes ball extends beyond the Vendée. Many people come to the locality simply to enjoy this unique and grandiose experience. This craze is due to the fact that the Puy du Fou is the largest breeding center for birds of prey on the Old Continent.
A true benchmark in the field of falconry, the park has recorded over 80 births a year since Jean-Louis Liégeois founded the site in 1989. Today, the Puy du Fou Falconry Academy is home to more than 500 tame birds, bred to become accustomed to human contact as soon as they hatch.
Thanks to the daily work carried out by our falconry masters, the park is able to offer this unique show in the safest possible conditions.
The Puy du Fou is one of only a handful of facilities offering training for qualified raptor handlers.
